-   I’m caught in a heavy traffic.   (or ‘a traffic jam’)

-   I missed the bus.   (or ‘the train’)

-   I could not get a taxi. I’m still waiting for one.

-   I had an urgent matter to attend to just now / a moment ago.  (or ‘a personal matter’)

-   I overslept.  (if your meeting is early in the morning)

-   The bus broke down.

-   There was a road accident.

-    The train was delayed.
